Tesla ultimately wants its vehicle owners to never experience range anxiety while on the road thanks to its “Supercharger” stations.

The American electric automaker reached a new milestone this week by cutting the ribbon on its 100th Supercharger station in Hamilton, New Jersey in front of a crowd of over 100 people, including New Jersey state legislators, Tesla executives and supporters. A total of 86 Supercharger stations are now opened in North America while there are 14 in Europe and new ones coming live in China this week. At a Supercharger station, Tesla Model S owners can get half a charge in as little as 20 minutes, allowing for long-distance driving without ever having to pay a single penny for gas.

Tesla hopes to have 98 percent of the U.S. population covered by Supercharger stations by the end of the year, ultimately allowing its customers to never be more than 100 miles away from a Supercharger. The company also released some interesting statistics about the stations, saying they have offset 570,921 gallons of gasoline, $2.3 million collectively saved in fuel costs, 14,273,033 miles charged, 4.9-million kWh cumulative total energy delivered and 5,196 vehicles charged in the  seven days leading up to the event.
